Alright so my wife and I have narrowed down our cities of choice down to 3 or 4 that we plan on looking at when we come out to Greensboro in July. Now I want to get some of your opinions on the pros and cons of these 3 cities. Would you live in Jamestown, Whitsett or Kernesville? and why what does each offer and not offer, my wife and I are both medical students so we are not party people we are looking to find a 2 bed 2 bath house around the $800-$1000 range. But from my research so far Jamestown seems like the high end executive area of Greensboro and Whitsett seems like an new and upcoming developing area and Keneresville I have heard a lot of good things on this forum so I am throwing that in as a bonus option!
Thanks for your help! |

Hi,
I smiled when I read your post because I was saying to myself that you're a great researcher! I've lived in NC all my life, worked (and shopped) in a lot of NC cities and you're on the money with the 3 you're observing. I also drive a tractor trailer and have been all over the country and still choose NC as my home. Each city you've chosen is really really nice, but my choice would be Whitsett because it's a beautiful and yes, growing area. You're near Greensboro (to the west) and Burlington, Chapel Hill, Durham (Duke Medical Center!!), Raleigh (to the east) and I have friends who've lived there all their lives and love it. |

I live in Jamestown - so maybe I am a bit biased - However, I would SO choose Jamestown. Whitsett is ok - but in the middle of no where. Jamestown is a REAL place - not just a lot of houses that have sprung up with a 1 shopping center close by. In Jamestown, one gets to know people (dry cleaners, grocers, etc.), and the schools are very good. (In Whitsett - one is distrcited to Eastern - not a great school!) Not sure if you have amade a decision - but if not, give Jamestown another look!

Jamestown is the most centrally located for Greensboro and High Point, and has the most "civilization" so to speak. If you have one spouse working in HP and one in GSO, then jamestown is the way to go. Now if you have one spouse in Winston-Salem and one in GSO, you may want Kernersville, which is growing, and has been for years. The only reason I would recommend Whitsett as far as that goes is if someone is working in the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham) and one is in GSO. Whitsett is growing but still has a long way to go. Unless you want a more country setting. Jamestown is my pick for you.
Good luck! |
