Hi, I recently bought a house in the High Point area, and I was hoping to find one in Jamestown, but unfortunately I couldn't. The house I bought is about on the line in High Point and Jamestown. I originally wanted my daughter to attend Ragsdale High, but we are zoned for Southwest High....even though we are 5 mins to Ragsdale. We are moving from Florida in July. She is a avid Soccer player and will be starting High school next year. She wants to take drama, tv production, and wants to play competive soccer for high school. I have heard some many great things about each school...and I dont know whether to get a vereance form to go to Ragsdale or just let her go to Southwest. Can anybody help me, maybe give me some feedback on the two schools? Thanxs

Both of the Jamestown area schools offer what you need, but I hear from teachers that they are not fond of Ragsdale. SW is a good school. Check out the report cards- NC School Report Cards

And good luck!

Southwest is a very friendly and safe high school. I would recommend SW.

Definitely Southwest. I haven't heard good things about Ragsdale recently. SW has many, if not all, of the activities your daugher is looking forward to participating in. Perhaps you and your daughter can take a tour of both schools when you arrive and that may help in making your decision.

I agree that Southwest is the better school.

Default Ragsdale

Actually I have to disagree - Both of my children graduated from Ragsdale (my youngest last year), and I know that Ragsdale is every bit as good (if not better) than SW Ragsdale (unlike SW) is a real community school - the whole town goes to watch teams play sports, academics are as good, if not better than SW. Ragsdale has an outstanding staff with little or no turnover. Having said all that, it will be VERY difficult to get a transfer to another school. All of the schools in the GCS system are crowded, so unless there is a compelling reason, you won't be able to move schools.
