Can anyone give me any advice on if my daughter who is white would experience any problems if she visits her best friend this summer(she is black)Ive never been to North Carolina and Im wondering if she is likely to be accepted???They are both 15 so would be going around town on their own.

You are taking preconcieved 19th century history and not 21 century knowledge of the area this will give you a good clue.

Considering I've seen ions of interracial couples (particularly black and white) and the fact that many people are northern/Floridian transplants, it's not such a big deal. I, too, thought the same way coming down here from the D.C. area. Sure, there are racists everywhere but it's not 1960-blatant or anything outlandish to worry about regarding interracial friends.
The NC School for the Arts is in Winston Salem, for crying out loud; that's about as open minded and progressive as it gets just to mention an example.

(But I understand how you would think that way; a lot of "outsiders" do. Wink.)

We aren't stuck in Jim Crow here, don't you worry. There are racists everywhere, and Winston is no different. Heads won't be turning, no hassling or anything of that nature.

They will be fine! There's plenty of things for them to do to stay out of trouble, I'm sure that she'll enjoy her trip!
