Question School is out- need advice on family fun

Other than the zoo and museums and science centers, what do preschool and elementary age kids do for fun during the summer in the Triad?

This is a wealth of info on where to take the kids and summer camps in the area.
Definitely pick up a Piedmont Parent- my wife is the new calendar editor and there's tons of stuff for families going on. Each month they have a Day Trip you can do as well.

You can aslo try meetup.com and look up the mom & dad groups for activities. Most of them only ask for a $3 a year membership and they update their calendars with community events as well as personal playdates and group outings to parks, fire stations, pools, etc. It is a good way to make friends too!

Celebration Station is a great place to take kids. Its an entertainment center that has a restaurant, video arcade, batting cage, bumper boats, gokarts and miniature golf. Its located in Greensboro near the intersection of Business 40 and West Wendover Ave on Big Tree Way.

Also Greensboro has an indoor gokart track entertainment center called Grand Prix Greensboro

Smile Here are some ideas

Go picking Strawberries, peaches and blueberries! We to Ingram's Strawberry farm and our daughter had a blast! PICK YOUR OWN! Even Dh and I want to go again. Other than that, going to the pool is great.

Also, many of the area theatres are doing FREE MOVIES for kids for the 9 weeks of summer. Showtimes are usually around 10.am. Check your theatres' websites or call.

Sometimes the library has free stuff to do.

Also, when you're at the supermarket, pick up those free magazines and flyers for parents and families. I have often seen stuff listed in there I had no idea about!! If you are out of state, or out of the area, I could send you something if you like. *shrug*

You can also check the local newspaper News & Record for Greensboro. I don't know what Winston-Salem's papers are. Anyone?

I hope this helps!
Also, try joining one of the very active parents groups at Real groups make a real difference - Meetup.com. They have a calendar with listings when you join a club. The Greensboro Moms & Dads Meetup group is one of the more active ones, as well as the Triad Treehouse. Good luck!

I loved picking strawberries when I was younger. Its fun for all ages! Sometimes its just about the time that you spend with your family doing something together, not always where you go.
