Default Living in Winston-Salem area (King), NC

My husband and I are planning to move to the Winston-Salem area later this year. We have visited the area 3 times and love it there ~ as far as we can tell from week-long visits.

We are interested in purchasing a home in a town such as King or Lewisville or perhaps one of the small towns nearby. We would prefer not to be in the city, but in one of the smaller towns... as we now live in a huge city and are ready for a change. We are looking for an acre or more of land, and my husband will be building a shop in which he can restore and repair autos. I will be planting a garden, and plan to be involved in the community.

We would appreciate any input about the towns surrounding Winston-Salem. Thank you ~ from a future resident!

King may be a little too far away from Winston. If you want some land I would look into:

1) Lewisville–on the outskirts, in the town itself the lots are relatively small.
2) Davie County–Mocksville
3) Davidson County–Midway, Arcadia, Wallburg (I would look into the northern part of Davidson County).

Well I will tell you from living in King that I would not move back.. We just moved out of King last year the school systems are way OVER CROWDED with no relief in site and they have taken art and music out of the schools ... I believe King is fine if you are retiring but if you have children in school not the place to be.. In my opinion I would move to Lewisville its beautiful there and has alot of community functions and they also have the Lewisville square where everyone gets together on Sat. nights and have movie nights and all types of different events.

Default Thanks for the info

Thank you for the input! We are looking forward to making N.C. our home. I did forget to mention that it will just be my husband and I as our children are grown.

Lewisville is a great community, but may be a bit pricey for your criteria (as compared to King and some of the other areas suggested), and you may have zoning issues with regard to your husband's auto restoration interests. Wherever you decide to look, be sure to ask about zoning and prermitted uses. I'm not sure if Stokes County (where King is located) has zoning in the unincorporated areas or not.
