my husband's company would like to relocate his territory to NC,VA, and DC....which means we could really live anywhere in this region. we've narrowed it down to north carolina b/c it's the best cost of living. we have been researching winston-salem and it sounds great (from what we've seen the ardmore area appeals to us), but i've also heard wonderful things about greensboro. which is better? maybe to help in your response... we are in our late 20's/early 30's and have two young children, a toddler and an infant. we're relocating from delray beach, florida (boca raton area) so we're used to having traffic, busy streets, and lots of nice restaurants. we don't mind moving to a smaller town..but we'd like to still have a cool downtown area with shops, restaurants, and parks to walk with the kids. we'd like to find a pretty, idealic place to raise a family, send them to good schools, and make nice friends/neighbors.

Based on what you are looking for I would have to say Greensboro. There is more going on downtown, especially the nightlife and the city has more shopping options, parks and greenways. But Winston-Salem is a great place as well.

Yes there are several historic urban neighborhoods that border downtown. College Hill, Fisher Park, Westerwood and Aycock. Southside is a revitalized neighborhood within downtown.

You are so welcome. Take a look around Greensboro because there are other neighborhoods with historic charm such as Sunset Hills and Irving Park. You wont be disappointed with Greensboro.
