What can you tell me about the High Point area? (Greensboro: crime, preschools)

We are looking to relocate from NJ and do not know much about the towns down there. It looks like we will be both working Greensboro. We are not city folks (we have a 3 yr old son and a large dog) so we would be looking for small towns that would not be to far from shopping etc. Also the need for good preschools/school systems is needed but we would mostly be looking for a strong sense of community. We also love to fish/boat/swim so somewhere close to a lake would be nice to as I grew up on a lake and would really miss it. Anything you can tell me would be appreciated since it looks like we will be moving before the summer is finished. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

I wouldn't suggest High Point. I would look into the north Davidson area:

Ledford, Midway, and Arcadia. The schools are good and there are some good preschools in the area.

I have lived all over the USA and a couple of other countries as well. Of all my favorite places, High Point and Archdale, NC in my opion, is full of the dumbest idiots I've ever met. High Point Regional Hospitial is a big joke and their staff must have had the lowest GPA's in their classes. I can tell you have a lot of true horror stories and that is just the ones they've been caught at. The food service industries are distgusting. I make it habbit of observing anyone who handles my food and I've seen everything from cooks picking there nose to reaching under their shirts and scratching like they had fleas and continue to handle food without washing their hands. Of'course, I request a refund immiedetly without ever touching the food. ALWAYS count your change, espeacially in High Point & Archdale because there are some no counting idiots around here. That should tell you something about the schools systems as well. Again, imagine what all goes on, that isn't being caught. The crime is getting worse around here, but it's like any other city in that aspect, they all have their share of problems. Archdale cops are a joke. They spend a majority of their time trying to pick up females for "favors" and may god help you if you're anywhere around if they get rejected, because they'll find a reason to give you a ticket or citation. People in this area are either crooks, corrupt or just plain idiots. No one knows how to use common sense around here. My best advice, avoid High Point & Archdale, NC at all cost. I am a native of High Point, but I was fortunate enough to have a Mother who made sure I was raised right. I'll be moving from this "hole in the ground" soon.
