Not sure about Winston-Salem (so I probably shouldn't even reply), but Asheville definitely is if you're looking around.

Is The Gay and Lesbian Atlas available online or does one need to track down a print copy?
Thanks,
Alice

As far as I know, print, but some general reference web sites carry some data from the book.

mm34b,
Your posts are so factual and to the point that I can't help wonder if you are a reference librarian.
Thanks,
Alice

Winston Salem is fairly liberal in terms of social issues...it was founded by Moravians from Germany, which is very different from other Christian religions in it's passive acceptance of others. It is still evident around the area...although there doesn't seem to be a huge gay population because there isn't a gay section of town, there are a couple of gay clubs and organizations. There is alson a large arts community in addition to the N.C. School of the Arts, and arts communities always have a gay element. Overall it's not the most exciting place to be gay, but it's nice if you want to raise a family.
