Advice for Mack Trucks transferees
Hi Everyone,
Today I find myself surprisingly on this forum since my hubby told me that Mack Trucks is moving its headquarters from Allentown, Pa., to Greensboro.
We will be looking for a home to rent, perhaps forever, for us, our 2 big dogs and one cat.
We were previously planning a move to Tampa, but Mack is bringing us here, so I would love to hear of some great areas to live.
My dream place would be part of a community with a pool and exercise club, etc. (They are all over Tampa, it seems). Would also love an area where plenty of things are within walking distance (either/or, I'm asking too much to get both, I'm sure!)
I don't think the move will come before the first of the year but it is never too soon to start the research.
My youngest is in college in Tampa and my oldest works in Manhattan, so school districts are not a big priority for us. The nest is pretty much empty.
Thanks in advance for any advice you may have.

Having 2 big dogs is gonna cut down on your options if you are looking at apartment complexes.

We are definitely looking to rent a house. Don't want to buy until we are more familiar with the area, if at all.
My dogs are too annoying to live in a complex -- lol!

If it helps a coworker has relatives down there( Winston Salem) and remarked that both Winston Salem and Greensboro are very similar to Allentown and Reading economically and demographically, but with nicer winter weather. Stock up on the pretzels, potato chips, ring bologna and other dutch treats, you'll miss them. But their barbeque is better.

Welcome to Greensboro. I work at Volvo (financial services). Office is easily accessible anywhere from triad (GSO, HighPoint,Winston-Salem). If apartment is not a problem, Check out Waterford Place Apartments, 101 Shore Lake Drive Greensboro, NC 27455 Phone : (888) 565-8122. We've lived there when we were building out house at Water's Edge@Lake Jeanette. They have pool, gym and allow dogs. They have short term leases(3mo+), so you take that and then search for house.

Welcome to Greensboro! I agree that Waterford Apartments on Lake Shore Drive is a very nice apartment complex in a lovely area of Lake Jeanette. They will gladly take you on a tour and the rents are reasonable. You also have shopping, banks, hair salons right down the road on Pisgah Church. Good luck to you!!

Since I believe Mack is giving my husband, St. Ron, a total relo. package, I can bring you as many pretzels, chips as you need! Thanks!

Adams Farm is where most of the Volvo People relocate to. Has a community pool and all that. I am a Volvo Employee and live there. There are houses up on the bulletin board here that are available for rent.
It is a good neighborhood and not too far from shopping and a 15 drive to Volvo/Mack.
When are you moving down?
I have toyed with the idea of renting my house and moving downtown.

How do you like working at Volvo? I got a degree in accouting and a masters on the way. I am interested in finances, accctouning, anything of that sort.
