Default Why is it taking so long to build an ACC Hall of Fame in Greensboro?

Greensboro is birthplace of the ACC. The city host more ACC basketball tournaments than any other city yet our city leaders dont seem to be proactive and making an ACC Hall of Champions a reality. Sure there is talk, but there is always talk. several years ago things were in the works for putting up signs along the interstates at the city limits "Welcome to Greensboro - home of the Atlantic Coast Conference" and 5 years later still no signs. The ACC is known nationally across the country so it makes sense for Greensboro to associate the city's name with the ACC. Now I realize building an ACC Hall of Fame will cost millions of dollars but Charlotte easily managed to build a more expensive NASCAR Hall of Fame. I love Greensboro but this is one thing that frustrates me about the city. Its almost like the city wants to keep a low profile. What better way to get city name recognition than associating the city's name with the ACC? many people not from this area dont even know the ACC was founded here. They just know we host a bunch of basketball tournaments. I think th city needs to be more proactive in developing an identity for the city and if the city can spend millions on parks and now a new parking deck downtown, the city could contribute to something that very important to us and is a part of our history. Another issue I have with the hall of fame is the location. It seems that most city leaders want it near the coliseum. There is logical reasoning to that but I disagree on the location. It needs to be downtown in my opinion. The best location downtown is clearly next to New Bridge Bank Park. Its one of the largest chunks of available land downtown and just think of the possibilties of having an ACC museum there. An ACC restaurant and bar could overlook left field. Having the hall of fame there would also help Greensboro secure the ACC baseball tournament. The hall of fame would attract thousands of people downtown that would spend money at restaurants, hotels and shops. its really a no brainer. But until we get some proactive leadership, all these ideas will just keep being ideas.
