Sounds like those trips didn't include Texas... Although I crossed it many, many years ago since the flatness can't change I can safely say it's way worse. Imagine endless miles of seeing nothing but sand, tumbleweeds, and billboards...
As for which city IS bigger, versus which FEELS bigger....
Greensboro may have the larger pop. But WS has more "big buildings" downtown. WS also has more of the traffic that I left FL in order to avoid. You hardly ever experience stop-and-go traffic in Greensboro even during the "rush hours" around 8 in the morning and 5 in the afternoon. Some roads will be slightly more congested than normal, but that's it. My coworkers here in Greensboro had to go to the WS office to work last week, and they said there were at least 2 different places for each of them where there was stop-and-go traffic. I'm sure it wasn't as bad as Tampa, FL, but my point is that WS has the "bigger city" feel in terms of traffic when compared to Greensboro.
Hope that fills in at least one piece of the puzzle for you! The two cities are rather similar in size, so it's hard to judge which one really feels bigger. I'd suggest visiting both.
I second that, those kinds of descriptions are only second best to actually being there. WELL done! I think absentchaos should be a columnist or contributor for the Triad Living magazine!
