Default Mack Trucks relo. info. We may buy instead of rent. Suggestions?

Hi, I'm back. Now that I realize Mack is paying our closing costs and I see how reasonable real estate is in Greensboro, we are rethinking our rental plans and may just buy a house.

I am looking at communities mostly because I would love to live where there is a community pool and clubhouse. I wouldn't mind my own pool, but I still like the idea of having someone else maintain it.

I've looked at areas such as Adams Farm and it looks great. Are there other communities like this in Greensboro? Winson-Salem? High Point?
Waterfront looks amazing but also way out of our price range. We probably wouldn't want to spend more than $250,000, and preferably less.
I think we will be lowballed on our relo. price from the appraisers and I don't want a huge mortgage anymore.

Anyway, you fine folks, I'm open to more suggestions! Still no timetable but we know it will happen within the next year and I'm not one to wait around.

You guys are great and thanks for all your info. Soon we can be neighbors. I have a great feeling about the area already.

Thanks!

If you need to be near Volvo, there are quite a few areas in Jamestown, HP, and Greensboro that have what you need. Most have pools nearby you can join (such as Adams Farm and Jamesford Meadows). You can even do Kernersville if you want the drive. Are you moving down from Pennsylvania? My wife used to work for Volvo Trucks and I still have friends and clients who work there- it's a good place! Of course, no matter what, Mack first, Volvo second as far as trucks go!

Good luck!

I have lived in this area all my life (60 years)and love it. I have a 3 bedroom 3 bath townhouse with a private drive and a 2 car garage, sun room, and courtyard. It's about 2000 square feet, 4 years old, well manicured and about 2500 feet away is a new Sports Center with indoor and outdoor pools and the lastest state-of-the-art workout equipment, with a medical center next door. Quiet upscale neighborhood in Kernersville NC which is about 8 miles from the Volvo Trucks Headquarters. My townhouse is actually a duplex which spreads out the neighborhood. It may or may not be of interest to you, but you'll never buy one cheaper because I am motivated to sale and I don't have it in the real estate hands. Let me know if you or anyone you know may have any interest.

Thanks,
Doug

We've recently moved down here from the DC area. (about 4 months ago). I'd say, so far you are looking in the right areas. We rent a place in Adams Farm. We really like the area. We don't use the pool or club house at all (way too expensive in my opinion), but its nice to walk to dog around the lake and such. You can find really nice single family houses in this neighborhood for 180 or so (thats list, they are probably selling for less).

There are quite a few nice rentals in Adams farm right now for around 1400-1500. If you are going to be here a while, I would buy, your monthly payments would actually be less than the going rents. We have to move back to DC in 2 years, so its silly for us to buy, otherwise, I would definitely have bought a house.

My wife is a bigger fan of Jamestown however, The houses are older, but nicer and the people seem a nicer. Adams Farm is OK, but seems to be a lot of transplants (like ourselves). It doesn't seem to have that friendliness we expected when we moved down here. The older neighborhoods (like Jamestown) folk seem a lot more friendly. (to be clear, its not like anybody in AF has been mean or anything, just less social than we expected...its still a wonderful place to live).
