Question

what did you find easier, looking and waiting for a job, from your current city or moving to greensboro, and searching then?

We're not exactly "new" residents but my husband applied for jobs from our current city (and was hired) before making the move here.

I would strongly recommend to anyone considering a move to NC to get a job first. The job market is not that great right now.

The process was pretty smooth. At the time the job market was better. They set up some interviews and we came into NC for a week of interviewing. He was hired shortly thereafter.

We moved here from syracuse,NY. We picked Burlington because my hubby got a job here allready transfered. That did not work out. So he went to school for truck driving got a job from wanrer enteprizes. that did not work out had many tempoprary jobs through ardeco. Mainly the honda plant that makes lawn mowers.Got hirered at other places but as soon as incurence took affect they let him go. Now for allmost 1 and half years is working for a local truck driving company. We are doing a lot better. Sometimes you have to hang in and not give up. I have a job for all most 4 years.

We got the transfer through my husband's current company. We were looking at the Raleigh area at first, and could have done that, but when the opportunity for the move included a promotion in Greensboro, we went with that. We had made one previous road trip to NC before that, and then the 2-day interview trip for the position. After that, we were moving here.

I think it helps that he works for a national retail chain; while that makes for a smoother transfer, retail is not exactly the ideal job however when you are raising a family - his schedule is all over the place. But the people here are nice!

Mine? Barnes & Noble. That's where we met for the first time - in fact we just had our 6 year anniversary this week. *girlish grin* We were both working there. B&N has a way of budding romance I think. People seem to either have hot flings (like the coffee) or slow-burning romance that leads to marriage (the novel).....I've seen it happen again and again with my own eyes!

Default For the Love of Books!

Since in G'boro there is only one B&N and one Borders, the bookselling jobs are a little hard to come by - BUT - I know this is the moment/season for hiring for temps (and potential stays) for the holiday season, full-time and part-time. Basically, anyone who can work all the different hours is a higher priority than someone with a limited schedule (think weekends, evenings). I'm pretty certain Borders is the same.
I know there is a B&N in High Point off of Eastchester Blvd, and another B&N in Winston-Salem. As for the other companies I couldn't say...

My hubby and I have soooo many books (and he has this comic collection) that we will need an extra room or a large wall space just for the books. We have 5 shelves, floor to ceiling, at the moment, plus another 25 or so boxes in storage! We have minimized as much as I think we are willing, we just love our books. hee-hee!
