Hello,

My family and I live on Long Island and are considering a move to NC. My in-laws are finding it necessary to relocate mostly because of the taxes here.

Well, I was noticing a lack of swimming pools in the area. Is that true and if so, why?

Also, if I could throw in another question. Are there a lot of flying insect pests around during the summer? I know it's a bit more humid as a rule.

Thanks in advance

There are 10 houses on a road, at least three of them have or have had pools. I guess it's just a matter of preference, and finances, and the willingness to do the upkeep on them, the neighbors sold their house with a pool and the folks that moved it in, tore it down right away, guess they didn't want to deal with it, there's mosquitos, but aren't they everywhere?
just get some spray repellent and keep it handy and some citronella candles
mostly just after dusk, not during the day

Default oh, ok thanks

I was looking for pools on GoogleMaps and couldn't find any to speak of. I started thinking it might be too expensive to dig in the clay or something. Considering the lack of basements, that kind of seemed possible.

I was worried about the bugs because I remember seeing so many screened porches in Florida, I wondered if the problem was similar in NC.

Thanks again

There are some homes with pools. There are a lot of neighborhood pools which limit the need for some folks to have the upkeep of a private pool.
