Also, anyone who thinks there is a "hood" in High Point has never seen a real "hood" before. Try 5th Ward in Houston, or any real "hood" in any real city. Then you will know what a "hood" really is. Every town has a poor, crime ridden area. What matters is that you are aware of where it is, and take proper precautions if you ever venture into that area.
How did you make out in the aftermath? I live about a mile south and we were very fortunate all we lost was just power.

We had the top of a tree blown over, but no other real damage. Just a couple streets over people lost a lot. The path of the tornado shows it made a beeline toward us, but shifted to the right about 1/4 mile away to go by just south of us. We were on the edge of the winds, but a couple blocks from the edge of the damage path.

As a High Point resident I must say it is not as bad as many people are making it out to be. I have lived in many places and it is without a doubt one of my favorites.

High Point is Hawaii combined with Bermuda compared to Rocky Mount

If you are under 40 and don't have your own family then don't live in High Point.

My sister in law lives in High Point and I am there often. I can assure you, there are worse places to live.
Is it some uppity, fakey-plastic sort of new wave town? No. Its mostly working class, from what I can see.... as if that were bad thing.
