My family is looking to relocate to the piedmont area. We want a home with acreage (10-15+) but need to be near medical care and preferably close to a Christian school. Would consider public school if it is a highly rated district. My experience has been you have to substitute land for conveniences like schools, shopping, hospitals. Is there any area like this in NC? (Don't want the coast or the mountains) Can probably spend up to 350-400K. we also want to be near family things to do like parks, fishing, boating, toobing (does anyone toob in NC?). I guess we want the small town community spirit with big town convenience! Thanks.

That's a tall order. Land within a reasonable distance of a major hospital is going to run $20k - $30k per acre minimum.

At this point, it looks like a couple of new hospitals are to be built near one another (oy, the years of squabbling that has caused ) in the Winston-Salem area.

WFUBMC - Davie County Hospital

Novant gets initial OK (http://www2.journalnow.com/content/2008/dec/24/novant-gets-initial-ok/business-area/ - broken link)

Living in the vicinity of both would give you access to rural areas where there would be acreage, though I'm not sure if parcels that large would be available.
