I appreciate what you are doing and not suggesting that you stop doing it. I fix ferals in my neighborhood too. What I am saying is that if we could harness the voting power of all the animal rescuers to vote on bills regarding animals, animal advocates would be a force to be reckoned with!!!
Animal rescuers just need to wake up politically.

I live in the field, I can not ignore what is around me. Seems like any where I go feral cats and dogs come out of the woods - literally to find me. So yeah I'm mending broken shells but these shells are out my front door.

I realize what you are saying, I've been hit hard with reality concearning my own animals - Felv/FIV, which no doubt came from my cats coming into uncontrolled contact with infected ferals. The ferals flock to me, neighbors say they never seen a cat here before I moved in and I've seen over 10 and trapped some and raising kittens now (outside) to be homed.

My mom and boyfriend put it to me that I couldn't save all animals - which I know, but had to pull back on who I could help - and that hurts, can't explain why - just that I feel pain in my heart and gut that I am limited.

For some unknown reason I feel guilt for the ignorance of others - does that make sense? Because so many other humans aren't educated (or evolved), to know what an animal feels that I have to make up for their shortcomings? That is the best way I can describe it.

Sometimes I view us in the field as chasing our tail, that is true.

No, you can't save them all, but you are making a difference! It just takes one person in a neighborhood to completely turn around a out of control population problem. It is hard to accept that not all of them can be saved. But you can make up for those shortcomings by by voting pro-animal and educating others.

We certainly could use you around here. When it comes to animal rights NC is most definitely behind the times. Two major problems are the mentality & the political wrangling. There are many private rescue groups also.
BTW, have you been to Best Friends?

Glad to hear about the dogs behind bars program. I am a NYC/New Englander [ work in NYC live in Ct] who will be moving/retiring to NC- around Winston area in a year or so. I am very much interested in animal rescue, welfare.
I adopted 2 years ago a wonderful Carolina Dog from our local shelter and we also have a rescued cat.
Look forward to being in N.C. soon . Am a born and bread N.Carolinian who left after college and will be returning.

Not sure about transport programs in the Triad... just moved a few months ago from W-S to SC. There is a group of pilots here in the Upstate of SC who have an air transport service for rescues.
