What is the access to shops, places to eat, Starbucks etc. Is there any possibility of being able to walk places? How about dog walking

Are you asking if Winston-Salem has stores and restaurants? Yes! it's a medium size city. There are all the usual national chain stores and restaurants, including Starbucks. It is also home of the state's largest mall Hanes Mall.

Quote:
Hanes Mall is home to all your favorite stores like Belk, Dillard's, Macy's, JCPenney, Sears, and Old Navy, not to mention other great shops like American Eagle, Abercrombie & Fitch, Banana Republic, Yankee Candle, The Gap and Gymboree. Hanes Mall has over 200 fabulous stores and eateries making it truly a total shopping experience.

Winston Salem has huge amount of shopping All up and down Hanes Mall Blvd other than the mall there is several shopping centers on all sides. Silas & Peters Creek, University area, and Cooks Flea market Strafford Rd are all litter with ample shopping

You best bet would be to live in Ardmore. You can walk to mall or Stratford/Knollwood (depending on which part you live in ).

We are moving to the Winston Salem area In June/July. We want to rent until we are settled. We are looking at 3BDR Apartments that are handicapped accessbile in Winston Salem. I have looked at the luxury apts. in the google search engine. We would like assigned parking,no steps and thisck walls. Are there any nice apts. with elevators?

My husband is a College Professor and we are looking for a very nice quiet area.

I don't find Winston-Salem to be very pedestrian friendly. I second the best place to be for what you want is the Ardmore. There are some sidewalks and lots of people walking their dogs. There are also a lot of home rentals because of the medical professionals who tend to do their residency at the local hospitals.
