Hi there, I am thinking of moving to NC just to make a change from the NW. Would love to here some pro's and con's from people already familiar with area! I am hoping it is a little less stressful than Seattle with a heck of a lot less traffic and rain! I have a dog and would love to live somewhere we can go for a lot of walks... Also love to kayak and be outdoors. Any loves/hates...comments welcome.
Thanks!

The people. I grew up 30 minutes south of Greensboro and have lived or visited other parts of the state and far as the Piedmont Greensboro has the most friendly helpful individuals around.

This is going to be a good year to kayak since we have had alot of rain and if the water was warmer I would be doing it this week. The Yadkin River is nearby and you can ride to the bottom of Pilot Mountain like in this picture. http://www.yadkinriveradventures.com/Edisonnew.jpg The last time I did this trip we was deep in the drought and I kept dragging on rocks but Im sure it will be good times this year.

Greensboro is real laid back and traffic will seem like a breeze from where you are coming from .
A few bottleneck spots but that is mostly what "traffic" is

You are gonna love the lack of traffic here. I was visiting Seattle a few years back and I could not believe there was mid-day gridlock.
Also, Greensboro is very multicultural experience, 37% black and a growing Hispanic population (4%).
And the cost of living in Greensboro is way cheaper than Seattle.

Yep. Seattle real estate is astronomical. You could buy a mansion here for the price of a shanty in Seattle.

Yeah, but you can't find the fresh Salmon here or Cherries the size of Apricots! Still, it's a slower pace of life. You will probably miss the NW mountain range though after a while. The Appalachians seem like little hills after seeing the Cascade mountain range or Mount Rainier, in my opinion.

Your best bet, take a trip and have a visit. Tour parts of Nc you are considering. It's the best way to know, but doing alot of legwork online helps tremendously. Nothing short of a real-life visit will tip the scales for you, however.

Oh yeah, and ditto what yourhometriad said!
