Stokes County is mostly quiet and rural. I like it. But very few good schools, according to school report cards.
Do you have school-aged children? Try Kernersville, Clemmons, Pfafftown, Lewisville, north Davidson County, Oak Ridge, Stokesdale and Summerfield.
All the best!

We'd like to be helpful, but you need to provide more information about what you're looking for in a new location before anyone can give you advice. Stokes County (mostly rural) and Greensboro (medium size city) are vastly different. Apples and oranges.
Tell us what is important for you... type/price of housing, schools, jobs, shopping, recreational interests, other things that are important to have in a new location. Also, knowing where you'd be moving from might be helpful.
P.S. When you post late at night, it's not realistic to expect a lot of instant replies.

Regarding schools, I can tell you that I spent most of my elementary years in Stokes County schools, and upon transitioning from there to other counties in the state after 3rd grade I found that the curriculum at my Stokes school was far advanced compared to the others. For example, I left 3rd grade in Stokes to attend school in Carteret County, and was placed in 5th grade there. I returned to Stokes the following year for 4th grade. The next year, I moved to the Greensboro city schools, where I should have been in 5th grade, but was moved up to middle school and placed in 6th.
I do not know whether the schools up there are still as advanced.

Walnut Cove is quite small and rural. It's a nice town but relatively remote. King is much closer to Winston-Salem and is actually considered a bedroom community of W-S. Being adjacent to US 52 (future I-74, or is it I-73?), a major north-south route, King is much more accessible to regional amenities than Walnut Cove... also many more housing choices. You should find nice houses in your price range. Since they are both in Stokes County, they are part of the same countywide school system. I don't have kids, so someone else will have to speak to the schools. Based on your criteria, King offers more growth potential and business opportunities than Walnut Cove. You'll find more many more transplants in King than Walnut Cove, too. According to WalMart's web site, there is not a store in Stokes County, but the closest one to King, on the north side of Winston-Salem, is less than 10 miles.

Hi. I am trying to locate someone in Walnut Cove. We are childhood friends and grew up together. I lost touch with her four years ago and would like to get back in touch. I will only use first names. Her first name is Cindy. She has a daughter (only child) named Christie (or Christy). She was married to a fellow from Stokes county named Gerald but they divorced in the early 90s. She remarried, but I don't know the fellow's name, but they also divorced. She lived on Summit St. until her house burned down several years ago. If you know her, please let her know Diane is looking for her. I can be reached at ddcnga@gmail.com. Thank you!

I live in Surry County above Stokes County, it depends on where you will work. The economy sucks, Stokes is really close to Winston-salem but a lot more driving time to Greensboro, if that is where you will be working. To me, they are worlds apart. I like the Walnut Cove area, pretty far out for some, it depends on what you want as far as driving time.
