Are there any good, locally-owned (read: not a national chain) steak houses in Greensboro?

The Chop House is a local chain- excellent steaks there. Also there's a brazilian place on Market street called Leblon which is also excellent.

Good luck!

oh and leblon has a website- Leblon Churrascaria Brazilian Buffet Steakhouse Greensboro NC

and the chop house's website is Welcome to The Chop House, Connors Steak & Seafood, Regas and Connor Concepts. Prime Steaks, Fresh Seafood, Steakhouse, Steak House Restaurant and they are regional, sorry. But good stuff nonetheless.

Yes, we have the Chop House, too. But perhaps we'll try the Leblon. Thank you so much!

Stay away from Fleming's (national chain) and Steak Street. They are over-priced and quite mediocre. Surprisingly (perhaps), some of the best steaks in the area can be found at Tripp's.
I'm not sure where you're from, but the Chop House you have might not be the same as what we have. It's a common name nationally, but not all are affiliated with each other.
Nothing we have is even nearly as good as McKendrick's in Atlanta. That's the standard that I judge all steak houses by.

There's a Chophouse in Greenville, SC -- don't think they're local.

If you're willing to consider Winston-Salem, Ryan's Restaurant (no, not the low-cost chain) is a stand-alone, fine dining steakhouse that's been an institution in W-S for many years. Not trendy... just really good.

The Gate City Chop House in Greensboro and the Twin City Chop House in W-S are not the same restaurants as the Chop House chain. The Gate City Chop House I believe was the original restaurant of what is now known as the Chop Houses of NC. They now have four restaurants in N.C. in Greensboro, Wilmington, Raleigh, and W-S. Technically they are now a chain but in the same way Lucky 32 is a chain they are locally owned and still very much local establishments.

Welcome to Streets and Avenues

As far as their steaks I don't know but I have had their pork chops and they are delicious.

Thanks for all the input, cohaagen. I double checked the website and the Chop House is the same. We LOVE their fried green 'maters. I think my husband's got his heart set on Leblon but we're always open to suggestion. I really appreciate everyone's feedback.

I do love some meat on a sword at Leblon. And Tripp's does have good steaks as well. STeak STreet is overrated, and Fleming's is ridiculously expensive.
