It is my understanding that all automobiles have to be listed as personal property for tax collection purposes. My question is, do autos used solely for use on racetracks fall into that category? There are race car team owners in NC with 20-30 race cars, do they pay personal property tax on those cars as well?

Thanks,
PDD

All personal property must be listed. All motor vehicles are personal property.

Interesting question, but I don't know the answer of how business property tax laws are applied within the counties.

A quick google shows that Iredell county taxes race cars as Business Personal Property, falling under a different code, I assume, than just plain ol' cars

Quote:
Business Personal Property includes machinery, equipment, computers, furniture, fixtures, supplies, airplanes, farm machinery, race cars, and any other income producing personal property.

For personal property tax, it's the same as your home, in Forsyth: Forsyth County > Tax Administration > Tax Rates

When you purchase a vehicle, you also have to pay a one time sales tax of 3% of the total vehicle price.
