In case anyone hasn't been watching the news or reading online today, the counties of Guilford and Forsyth have announced an emergency town hall meeting taking place tonight at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center to discuss plans to dissolve the county line and consolidate all cities - making a single independent city/county system (tentatively named "Triad, NC"). This move is an effort to save money and make public services more efficient. The Brookings Institution study recently completed has recommended that this move be considered with high importance in order for the city and county governments not to fail, which the study found to be imminent for both Guilford and Forsyth counties and the cities of Winston-Salem and High Point, if major action is not taken within 4 months.
In the event that tonight's multi-governmental panel be swayed in that direction, petitions will be submitted to the state legislature for an emergency vote.
With state approval, which is all but guaranteed according to a recent poll of members of the General Assembly, the process of consolidation could begin as early as May 1st.
If you have a strong opinion on this matter - and how can you not? - please be on-hand for the meeting tonight at 8:00, Greensboro Coliseum, Special Events Center.

I'll see you there!

Not an April Fools joke; G'boro, High Point, & Guilford county are actually considering consolidating redundant/overlapping services in order to cut costs.

Just PLEASE don't call it TRIAD, NC. Thats almost as silly as the name of Piedmont/Triad International Airport. None outside of this region or North Carolina will ever know where it is!
A new name of Greensboro-Winston Salem would work similar to Dallas-Ft Worth. It will never happen since it makes good financial sense.

How about "Greenston-Point"? LOL the 3 triad cities will NEVER become one city because of the rivalry between the cities. Some had proposed that the 3 triad cities become one city but Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point would be seperate "Boroughs" within the city like New York City. I think Greensboro and Winston-Salem would fight over who gets the official downtown of the new city.
