What's your price range for affordable? Do you have a job? What area is it in?

Hello and welcome, for your 950 budget, close to great shopping, in a very safe area, The friendly area would be your best bet. A one bedroom is going to run you alot less than 950. Friendly area has some of best shops in the state, it's also close to the four seasons mall on gate city blvd. Friendly center/shoppes at friendly is an large outdoor mall, though specifically more on the high end of the spectrum, alot of places you wont find anywhere else in the triad. But yes friendly is your best bet, close to uptown, close to gate city blvd, with affordable spaces under your budget. You will also be close to market street which has an international mall.

This really depends on what kind of 1 bedroom you are looking for...

Apartment: Not much available around Friendly Center (Westborough Apts on Friendly/College is ok as is the complex on Muirs Chapel Rd at W Friendly Av)

Townhomes: No 1 bedroom townhomes

House: No 1 bedroom houses

Shared House : Several of these in the college areas down the road from Friendly Center

Basically you will be very limited if you are looking for a 1 bedroom living arrangement that is anything other than an apartment, and Friendly Center is very limited on nearby apartment availability.

New Garden Rd at Bryan Blvd area has a few more options for apartments and is a nice area as well. Very safe with some good shopping and access to major thoroughfares.

Friendly Center is great and probably the best shopping location in Greensboro but is limited on housing unless you can afford $200k+ home or willing to share a rental home with someone.

I would also look around the Palladium area in High Point. The intersection of Wendover/Skeet Club and East Chester basically has shopping on every corner. There's Palladium Apartments right behind Palladium shopping center. Alexandria Park is behind Big Lots and is essentially identical to Palladium except for being a little older and a longer walk (or extremely short drive) from the shopping center. Both would come well under your $950 budget. Alexandria Park tends to be cheaper, but the rental rates are dynamic at both. If you watch close enough, you may see the same floor plan at Palladium Apartments for cheaper than Alexandria. I don't know as much about Deep River Pointe, but they seem to start even lower than AP and Palladium and are in the same general area. The Palladium area, while in High Point, also tends to be low on crime. And is only about a 20 minute drive to Downtown Greensboro while also being only about 30 minutes from Downtown Winston-Salem.

But frankly, with a $950 budget, you should be able to get just about any 1 bedroom apartment you want. And quite a few townhouses. Heck, I live in a pretty nice 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment and come in under $950 (with a cat AND cable paid for as well).
