I've searched through the threads, and haven't found a one to answer my question - and I'm sure I'm not the only person asking. It's the end of April 2009, and my child has gone off to school in another state. I need to find a job, and I've been looking for a full-time job since July 2008. I know the economy sucks, and I know that North Carolina has had a hard time of it - the unemployment rate is higher than the national average. I'm not a local. Is it because I'm not a local that I can't even land an interview? Or is it just that the economy sucks? I'm hardworking, I'll not be a huge bother, I can provide excellent references - so why can't I find a job?

I have been an office manager/administrative assistant for over twenty years, most of that time in real estate.

You need to find a job outside of real estate if possible.

That's the key, isn't it - if possible? I've been looking outside of real estate.

The economy sucks in NC bottom line. I too had been looking since June 2008 and did not land a job in my native NC. I moved to St Louis, Mo where I landed a job while living in NC. You need to open your relocation options and span other industries like medical, defense or hospitality. Good luck!

I have a limited schedule I can offer employers and have been looking for a part-time position since August, and still no luck. It's not easy here. It's not horrible (like Concord, CA for example) but it will take some time for you to find something here. Keep that in mind and don't give up. It will happen if you stick to it, I do believe that.
