Anybody know a good pick as well as ,aybe a small cottage area too?

Did you see my answer to this question on the Charlotte side? If you leave Mooresville and head north up I77 you can get on the Blue Ridge Parkway in just over an hour Other than that I suggest a visit to Stone Mountain State Park south north of Elkin - probably just less than an hour, beautiful waterfall there and some great hiking!
