As we are still planning a move by the Fall...my Freshman to be is very anxious. As she should be because this is not an ideal time to move...but in many ways she is looking forward to it. She wants to be involved in clubs, sports and is an all around nice girl. She is hoping the school has strong student body involvement and she finds a good group of friends. I am hoping she has that transistion and doesn't encounter any rough patches w/ tough crowd or clicky, etc. Any insight?

I have two kids at West, a senior and a sophomore, so I can tell you what I see/know as a parent. West Forsyth is, in my opinion, an excellent school. It has a very good academic program. There's strong parent involvement, and the school offers a lot of sports programs and other extra-curricular activities. There are few fights--the kids seem to get along very well for the most part. That said, it's high school and of course there are groups or cliques as kids will naturally gravitate toward others with common interests. But it doesn't seem to be a problem--my kids have a wide range of friends, some are athletes, some are brainiacs, some are musicians, some are skaters, some are all of the above. And all of them are good kids and they get along just fine.

I'm confident your daughter will love West. Since West is fed by several middle schools, many of the freshmen kids don't know each other when they first arrive. So the fact that your daughter is new here won't make one bit of difference--she'll make plenty of friends in no time. Just tell her to relax, be herself, and get involved in clubs and activities that interest her.

One of the better High Schools in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County System. I am a former graduate and LOVED my time there. You can NEVER go wrong with Clemmons...especially in West Forsyth District.

Good Luck!
