My family and I are relocating in the next year. My husband would possibly be working in Salisbury. By reading threads and browsing on-line I am almost certain I do not want to live in Rowan County. We are looking for an easy going town to purchase a large chunk of land. We are very outdoorsy and will do a lot of ATV/motocross riding. We want lots of animals and privacy. I would say we want a small town, but would like to be within 20 minutes or so to a Wal-Mart or something like that. I am drawn to Davie County and Davidson County. Are these two counties too far for my husband to commute to Salisbury? He does not mind driving 30 to 45 minutes. We do have school age children so schools are VERY important as well. My son excells in his class and we want to continue to provide a good education to him. How far is Forsyth county/Clemmons? This town seems to get good reviews on here about schools. The things I look for first would be schools, crime, and diversification of towns/counties. We are not city people. We live in very crazy town now and can't wait to get out!!! Also, my dad is convinced that NE of us here in FL it is always rainy and gloomy. He grew up in NJ so that is his comaprison state. We are used to the stinking hot muggy weather so that is no problem for us. But what about rain and gloom? Is it really gloomy a lot there? Thanks for anyone's help. We are coming for vacation next month and want to narrow down some towns to check out. Saw a property in Denton that looked perfect on-line. How is that town? Thanks!

the west side of Davidson County can get you to Salisbury in like 15 minutes, so that might be a good option. Check the schools for the area at NC School Report Cards

Mocksville is a bigger/small town, is the county seat of Davie county and is about 25 mins from Salisbury. One thing to consider are the plans to replace the bridge on I-85 north of Salisbury and the possibility of it becoming a toll bridge: http://www.crmpo.org/Forms/Yadkin_TR_Final.pdf
There are not many crossing points over the Yadkin river, so if you look east of the river, take that into consideration.

On the weather, it doesn't even compare to the northeast/New Jersey and such. We do get rain and such, but it usually clears in a day or two. This past week has been quite a wash, but it has mostly been afternoon t-storms. I grew up in Ohio and it was ugly/grey for months at a time it seemed so this is great for me, but coming from Florida, it may seem a little bit cloudier here.

I can't really speak to the schools other than I know there is a big debate in Davie County in regards to a new High School, as they only have one for the county (country vs city).

Good luck!
