Default Pet friendly rentals convenient to McLeansville

Hello,

I got a job in McLeansville, and thought Greensboro was a good place to live. Now I think that it is definitely not for me--too urban. I need a bit more "country living" than that. I went to a coworker's in Burlington this week, and saw Alamance Crossing. This seems to be more the area for me. Paved roads and everything, and I can go out to eat or see a movie easily, but there are still some trees and stuff. Also the roads seem less crazy (I'm apparently a terrible driver, and spoiled by a grid system in Norman, OK).

Now, here are the problems:

1) Have driven around a little bit, but didn't really see any houses for rent...just for sale. I just got my first real job, so went from $8/hr part time to upper $50,000s/year. This means I can afford more, but I have no down payment saved up. I don't think buying is a good idea for me right now (though I probably should go talk to a financial advisor type person). Even if I were looking to buy, it seems like 3 of the 4 houses I saw for sale were more like $300,000 rather than $100,000.

2) I have pets. Two big German Shepherds, and a cat. No one in Greensboro seemed to want to rent to me or has a yard, and now that I found all of about 2 places, I've decided I'm scared of the area.

Can anyone recommend specific streets to drive down to find a place to rent? I've scoured craigslist a lot the past couple of months, but I still haven't found anything.

Here is a list of wants/need if someone knows of something:

Need:
Allow pets - 2 German Shepherds (90 and 60 pounds), 1 cat (all 3 are indoor pets)

Fenced yard (preferably kind of big)

High speed internet - not HughesNet or anything like that. The latency on satellite is not usable for me. I need both broadband and high speed.

30 minute or less drive to work, less is better - I work near Mt Hope Church Rd & Millstream Rd, NC - Google Maps

Washer/dryer hookups - I already own a washer/dryer

Want:

Dishwasher

Know what you mean about the grid pattern; I moved here from Big 12 country myself (Go Huskers!) 5 years ago, and sometimes still have trouble figuring out the shortest route from point A to point B.

I'd definitely hold off on buying until you spend some time & make sure you like the job and the area.

There's a number of new communities around that area- pick up a real estate guide & do a drive through; you may find a rental owned by someone who can't sell 'cause they're competing against the builder. One of my wife's friends lives maybe five miles north on Mt Hope Church Rd in a newer community (Birch Creek, maybe?), but I couldn't tell ya if there's anything for rent.

May also have luck looking around Elon. Right next to Burlington, and with the college there one would assume there may be some rentals available, especially now that it's summer.

Thanks for the reply, though I was slow to see it. I went ahead with a place in Greensboro with a $750 NONREFUNDABLE pet deposit. Sickens me, but it was the best I could do. ps Why make it nonrefundable? Now I have no incentive to not let the cat scratch up $750 worth of walls. I probably won't since I try to be a nice person, but...you know?
