I am a young retiree relocating to NC in 2008. My husband and I are looking at the Greensboro/Highpoint area although Raleigh is a very good possibility. We have family in WS and my daughter and her family are relocating also (Raleigh). WE have been researching and we have visited WS several times. We would like a happy median between the two cities and saw a home we really loved in Highpoint.(300k) BUT....we would like to be able to venture more than 2 miles away from our home.(we read that Highpoint is uhhh...dangerous) We would like to avoid danger. Can you make some suggestions for us 50 somethins', with visiting grandchildren, but like their privacy,a 20 min drive to arts and culture and a night out at a good restaurant occasionally. Thx
North High Point, or Jamestown, along highway 68, Skeet Club Road, Penny Road, and that whole area would be fine for you. Lots of families, nice and safe, even a bit rural still. Lots of things to do within a short drive, an easy drive to the airport, access to all of the shopping on Wendover. Oak Hollow Mall should be just fine.
Numerous areas in High Point are quite nice, comfortable and safe. Like other places (Winston, Greensboro, Raleigh) there are areas you will want to steer clear of. A good realtor can assist in this.
