Greensboro Ghetto
Hello all,
I have been living in Greensboro for about 2 years now, and I am about ready to rent or even buy a home. The problem is, I am used to small town cities such as Morehead City and Boone where crime really isn't that big of an issue.
I was wondering if some of you could help steer me away from some of the more ghetto area's of town. My guesses so far are to stay away from down town and highpoint/ W. Florida but aside from that I don't really know where to start.
There are lots of cheap places to rent around here, but my better judgement tells me that there is a reason for that.
Thanks for your help!

You're right about Florida St.
Check out houses in these zip codes - 27455, 27407, 27408, 27410. Pleasant Garden is great. As is Summerfield, Oak Ridge, and Stokesdale. If you want rural, try Julian, Climax, Level Cross, Franklinville and Liberty.

So its looking like the guildford college area and NW for 27410.
Lake Brandt, Plainfield, North Church for 27455
Roselake, Groometown, Wiley Davis for 27407
Fairefield, W. Cone, Benjamin parkway, Pisgah Churh for 27408
These are some of the roads I found in these zip codes, would you agree with these streets?
Hope this info helps someone other than myself as well.

Stay away from Downtown and E. Wendover/Bessemer area.
W. Wendover Ave/Guilford College Rd/W. Freindly Ave are all good areas. Look for apartments around these roads.

I recommend the NW side, I rent a townhome in zip 27409 and do my shopping in Oak Ridge and Pleasant Garden and have found it to be very safe and quiet.

I disagree with those saying to stay away from downtown. It's turning into the young professionals place to be... as long as you stay in the true downtown area, Fisher Park, or Southside. Search those areas and you will find a lot of nice condos and single family homes.

I agree, I don't know who started the whole myth about downtown Greensboro being unsafe, that's a bunch of bologna! As long as you stay away from Lee Street, E Bessmer/E Wendover, East market, it's great downtown. Fisher park, Elm Street, Aycock Historic, UNCG area and Westerwood/Lake Daniel are all excellent areas. Also, check out Sunset Hills.

Try 27358 as well.
Areas to avoid... Anything in the Smith or Dudley Highschool districts.
A good rule-of-thumb is to research school districts and find schools with good scores. It doesn't matter if you have kids. Areas with good schools are usally good safe areas to live in.
