We'll be coming back to Greensboro to look some more. We'll have to check out Heritage Hills. Thanks for the suggestion, skimbro000.

Catrick, we had a Centex home in Texas -- it was a well built house. We'll have to look into them when we come back to Greensboro.

To elaborate on why not to buy a Shugart built home.
1. They lie about the construction.
2. They lie about when yard improvements will be done.
3. After being informed of eight violations of the governing documents our HAM (Homeowners Association Management) rep said nothing would be done to enforce the documents.
BUYER BEWARE!!

Centex is long gone from the Triad. I can recommend Keystone Homes (www.gokeystone.com) They build pretty nice quality at reasonable prices all over the Triad. Eastwood homes also builds all over the area and has a pretty good reputation. Stay away from Alaris...very poor quality. K.Hovnanian also has many developments in the area. I would rate their quality as OK.

Wow. Sorry. I didn't realize Centex was gone. I guess the developments I see are filled up, although a few look like they have space yet. Although since they were bought out by Pulte I should have realized it.

Sorry about that Bound.

We have lost quite a few national and local builders in this area over the last year. It's difficult to know who will stay in business these days. many people have been left high and dry with partially completed subdivisions and houses.

We didn't make it to see many homes while we were in the area. We did however, check out Eastwood's homes at Chandler Oaks, McLeansville. These appear to be very nice homes and definitely worth further consideration.

Too bad about Centex -- we had a Centex home when we lived in Austin. It was a great house, but we eventually built another house with Ryland because we were not happy with the location of our first house. The first lot lacked trees (truly necessary in TX) and was on the edge of a wild, forever green area -- usually a good place to be but we had some bad experiences that soured it for us.

The next house was terrific too -- lots of trees, safer for our family pets, etc. We hoped to remain there through retirement, but a twist of fortune sent us back East. Now we've resolved that the Carolinas is likely where we'll retire. Guess we'll narrow down where that will be next year when our house is finally on the market.

Thanks for all your suggestions and shared information. You have all been great!

BoundtoRetire, check out this link to the local Greensboro newspaper. New Home Communities Guide : TriadHomes.com : News-Record.com

It shows many new home communities. I think you would enjoy the Triad. I'm trying to move back myself.
