I bought a laptop 1 year ago this month and it has lines going down the screen on the right hand side (when looking @ it). It is a WIDE 3 inch white bar with a skinny blue strip. Shouldn't a Laptop last longer than a year?? Any suggestions? Should I call HP? Best Buy? I feel kind of robbed...I do nothing with this pc and I can't play DvD's or CD's in it either. Didn't think to try any of those till a few months ago. Ugh. Im so sad.

you can try calling the manufacturer, but you're probably sol.

It's most likely a problem with the ribbon cable or motherboard/videocard. Did you happen to drop it or bump it recently? Failure rates on laptops have lowered substantially over the past few years, with most of the problems arising from the fact that they don't just sit there like a desktop, but can be moved around and are subject to more "accidents". I have owned about every brand of laptop over the years and have been a lucky one with no problems (knock on wood as I write this from a laptop).

One thing to try is doing a google search on your make/model of laptop and the problem you are having. If it is a common or known problem with a model you will find similar posts or fixes.

Good luck!

This happened when my collge kid dropped her Sony VAIO in the door- from the top bunk. Lines appeared. Not many and thin at first but it got so bad she couldn't read (letters hidden behind lines)

After doing the research, I simply ordered her a LCD display. It came in a few days and I popped it in w/o incident. (involves screws and ribbons that have plugins, etc)

Worked fine, until she left it on the Rugby field and it was stolen.

Depends on your model. It can be anywhere from $50 to $200. If you find out that is what it is, check ebay for your models lcd. If you're not all that tech savvy, you might not want to attempt to take a laptop apart (yes it's just screws and ribbons, but can be a little daunting if you' don't like putting things together, it might be best to have someone who does tackle it).

No, they aren't, well, it's according to where you buy it.

Do a search for your MODEL # and parts (or 'replacement display') and you'll find many sites....use a credit card in case something goes wrong.
