Default Is Guilford County, Greensboro, a safe place to live?

I'm thinking about going to college in Greensboro, specifically Guilford College. It's not like I'll be spending a lot of time away from school, but I want to know if it's a relatively safe place to live. I've heard the crime rates are pretty high, but I guess what I'm asking is, is it dangerous?

The area around Muirs Chapel is a high crime area according to the Greensboro police 2008 crime map. This area is down W Market about 1/2 mile from Guilford College. The rest of the area is low crime.

I'd speak with someone at Guilford College. The areas cited by d_RANDOM are geographically very large and, in fact, include some of the wealthier neighborhoods in Greensboro, like Starmount.

I find maps like that generally unhelpful because the swaths of area are so huge, and it doesn't break down the incidents to more specific neighborhoods or areas.

I think the area around Guilford College is safe, especially if you practice common sense, i.e. don't walk alone at night, etc.

I used to live off of Friendly Ave about a mile further away from town from Guilford College. It's a very safe area.
