Anyone know what's been going on with Tripp's over the past couple of years? New owners, or new managers at certain locations? Some of their recipes have changed (not for the better). The wait staff now wear jeans instead of the black pants and skirts. The bread is different. The dishes are different. The fries are mediocre now. What's going on?

Sounds like a classic case of a restaurant that's lost its focus. I used to go to Tripp's occasionally years ago (early to mid-90's), and I thought it was decent. But then it seemed to go downhill, and I stopped going there. Then about 3 years ago we received a coupon in the mail for 2 free dinners, part of their new steakhouse concept rollout. My wife and I went, and I thought the meal was good, although it seemed they were trying to shoot a little higher than they should (i.e., trying to be too fancy, and I though it was too pricey for what you get compared to other steak houses). We haven't been back since.

They've always been about 10% more expensive than their food should be, but until a year or two back I'd always greatly enjoyed their food. They have some of the best steaks for the price (much better than other chains like Outback, Fleming's, Longhorn, etc.) and their sweet potatoes were fantastic, as were their salads and sandwiches. For a chain, they were always one of the best (the locations that I frequented, at least), easily on-par with Village Tavern. Not so much anymore.

We have only eaten at Tripps twice, once in Greeensboro and once in Pinehurst and both times the ribeye steaks were excellent. I like Tripps better than the steakhouses we have here in NJ, Longhorn,Outback and if I ever get back to NC I hope that Tripps is still a viable option for steaks. I did enjoy the Village Tavern in Greensboro but as usual I forgot what I had to eat there. ( It's a senior thing I guess) What was the question anyway?
