We're relocating to the Triad in the fall and have secured a space for our business in Winston Salem (downtown). We would like to live outside of the city (probably within a 20-30 minute drive) and Walnut Cove looks like a nice place. Does anyone have information about living in Walnut Cove or surrounding areas? Ideally, we'd like to stay away from having to commute on the 52, as I understand it's turning into Interstate 74.
Thanks.
Walnut Cove is okay if you really like that small town feel. Very community oriented, everyone knows everyone kind of place. It's right around 20 minutes from downtown so that shouldnt be a problem. Stokes County is a beautiful place, you should look at more than just Walnut Cove. Germanton is beautiful and its only 5-10 minutes away from the amenities of Stanleyville/North Winston. I know you said 52 was a no no, but King is also a great town and its growing quite well.
I grew up in the Stanleyville area & my parents have a farm on Hwy 8... which would be your route to work every day if you lived in Walnut Cove! You'll be joining many, many others who make the commute from Stokes County to Winston each day.
What exactly are you looking for in a house...other than being that close to downtown?
If schools matter...you'll want to look at the differences between Forysth & Stokes County. Depending on whether you're looking for a home with land or being in a neighborhood...you'll want to think about the regulations between the counties as well. Stokes County doesn't have as many regulations against where mobile homes can be placed, etc. You definitely will need to check out the areas to make sure that the distance to the store, etc. are suitable with you.
Rural Hall, King, Germanton, Stanleyville are all also very good options for you.
Let us know some more about what you're looking for & we'll see what we can do to help!
Walnut Cove is a wonderful place to live, I have lived here all of my life and I can tell you that its quiet, and friendly and just beautiful. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. There are lots of other routes to Downtown besides 52 and 40 from walnut cove. I assure you, you wont be dissapointed here!
