Does anybody have any advice for what to do with a speeding ticket? It's for 12 miles over limit in a school zone? Will I be able to go to court without a lawyer and get it reduced because of a good record, or should I hire a lawyer?? Never got a ticket in NC and don't know the procedures.
in a school zone you definitely want to get a lawyer. You may be able to get it reduced to improper vehicle. It will cost you a couple hundred dollars, but worth it in insurance premium hikes.
You will have to pay the fine; but you could ask for a 'inoperable equipment violation' which is a non-moving infraction. This will save you points, thus no increase in insurance premiums.
