You might think about volunteering at one of the local hospitals as a translator in the emergency room on fri. and sat. nights. Would it be safe to assume que su lengua primera es espanol? The need is great, you could work on your english and help others at the same time. (mi computadora no escribe espanol, no acentos, ni natildas)

Yes my maternal language is Spanish! I do that sometimes at Forsyth Medical Center and believe me it is difficult because the medical terminology is another language, but I have learned a lot. Also I have been interpreting and translating documents for teachers at the school to parents that do not speak any English and I enojoy it, but in both places I always speak more spanish than english, so I think that I need develop myself in another environment. I would love to have the opportunity to work as volunteer in administrative duties and practice my skills as well. but I don’t know maybe I am asking too much or maybe I will get lucky…

If you are in Greensboro, there is a coffee shop on Tate St. Usually a good place to get into conversations, mostly UNC-G Students. I don't know your age group, but the students and regular patrons of the place are easy to get into conversation, it may help you with idioms as well. If the Borders bookstore is still open, the one on High Point Road, they also have a small coffee shop, and a lot of books, and patrons that are generally open to conversations, good book stores offer more than just books. You could also check the newspaper for art galleries, go to the openings of new shows, another place wherein conversations are easily started.

The Salvation Army has a few programs that work with kids. It would give you a chance to speak with them in a casual environment. Plus there would be other adult volunteers you would get to interact with as well.
