Fifty years ago today, four freshmen from what is now N.C. A&T State University refused to leave a whites-only lunch counter at F.W. Woolworth in Greensboro, launching the civil-rights movement in the U.S. Today, the International Civil Rights Center & Museum opens in the old Woolworth building.

Looks like plenty of people made it out there this morning, considering the icy roads. It is on TV now.

I was on a flight yesterday afternoon from Chicago to Greensboro and the Rev Jesse Jackson was on it also. Saw today about this museum. Now I know why he was making his way here yesterday.

I was happy to see that most of the coverage focused on the Greensboro Four and how they came together to make that stand and why. All in all though I'm glad to see they are finally opening the museum, too bad it had so many tax dollars spent to support it. Any guesses as to how long it'll take to close because it's out of money to support it?

I visited the museum on Tuesday with my wife and child. I had misgivings because of the controversies and tax dollars and whatnot. But let me tell you, it is a moving and saddening experience. Hopefully it will become a fixture of Greensboro with many visitors and won't ever close down.
