I appealed my property tax and got a better rate...my vehicle tax just came in the mail and boy...wish my car was worth what they said it was!

Does anyone know what they use (kelly blue book, nada, etc? or is it retail, trade in?)?

I have a 2007 Ford Focus, 80k miles, cracked windshiled, dented up...and they claim it's worth/ tax value almost 9,000 dollars.

What numbers do they use? I want to appeal but want to find some numbers first. I'm in Davidson County.

Hey, I have a 2001 Honda CRV with 150K miles on it, cracked windshield, too, and Davidson County thinks its worth around $10,000. That's even more absurd!

I will be relocating to North Carolina, Greensboro area soon, moving from California.

What is the tax rate for a automobile in North Carolina?

Value
$10,000
$20,000

The rate for autos is the same as the rate for all property. In the city, that's 1.37%. So, if your car's worth $10,000 then the bill would be $137, and if it's worth $5000 then your bill would be $68.50, etc.

In California my annual registration (Tax) for a 2008 Accord is $296.00. Are there other costs that need paid yearly like safety inspection, if so how much?

Here, registration, inspection and property tax are all separate annual costs.
Safety/emissions inspection will cost $30 and must be done before renewing registration. I'm not familiar with costs for a new NC registration, but that info can be found at the website for NC DMV.
Renewal of registration is just a few dollars. I can't remember the exact amount.
Property tax is ad valorem, so the tax on your 2008 Accord might be $150-$250, depending on its value and to where you move.
