I want to know if your state has made huge cuts in education. Are there any schools being closed? Layoffs? I am from Indiana and I just got my NC Teacher's License and I wondered if NC is suffering like the rest of the US.

I do not know about closings and layoffs, there are many many schools in the Charlotte area where I moved to. However, I have been trying to get a teaching job in NC for 2 years and I have only received one call back. But I am still hopeful. Good luck with your job search

Definitely NOT a good idea to move here without getting a job first. NC's unemployment (in all areas) is the highest it has EVER been at 11.2 and climbing. There is no point in moving here jobless unless you had a specific "reason" to, such as family, a spouse's job, etc.

Check the various school systems' sites (most are county-wide--Guilford cty would be Greensboro, for example). I do know that state revenue has had a shocking deficit this year and most counties in NC (which administer the schools) have, as well. so it doesn't look promising. Of course, a great deal depends on what subject you teach.
