I usually donate my hair to Locks of Love every 2 years, but we are trying to pay off hospital bills and debt from having 2 mortgages for awhile, so I would like to sell my hair this time around. I know I could get around $300 for the length I could cut off, but I don't know what salons in the area purchase hair. If anyone knows which places to call, please let me know.

Sorry if this creeps you out. A lot of people use human hair for wigs, hair extensions, making collectible dolls, etc.

Try ebay. Say that it came from a celebrity.

I had no idea hair could bring in that amount of cash. Sorry I don't have any information to help you.

I think that you'd be better off going with a website like Sell Your Hair, Hair Classifieds, Hair Products

You could try calling beauty schools in the area and see if they have any suggestions?

$300 bucks for your hair? Really? If that's true it seems there'd be many people lining up for it. I've never heard of anyone selling their hair, so it must be the world's best-kept secret.

It is a good secret I guess. Most people don't realize that you can donate hair also. The reason it gets so much money is that you need to have at least 12 inches, it needs to be "virgin hair" never permed or chemically treated or dyed. It also needs to be healthy, so hair from smokers and those that drink don't get much money. There are a lot of people who want to buy wigs made with real hair and hair extensions (fake ones don't style well and can't be dyed), but there is a limited number of people with very long healthy hair willing to cut it off. Mine grows fast, so I'm able to donate about 12-14 inches every 2 to 2 & a half years. I have posted my hair online with thehairtrader (the top sale on the site was $3,600 for 27 inches) & have been offered up to $300, but I'd rather sell it at a salon because most people want to send checks & I haven't found someone who does paypal yet. I thought going to a salon would just be easier. If anyone finds out that their hairdresser buys hair, please let me know. I'll try the beauty schools and let everyone know if they buy hair.

Hi, I'd just google search for sites that buy/ sell hair, maybe check a review for the most reputable site. FYI the mass majority of hair donors say it's a http://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/icons/icon5.gif donation site but in truth they sell the hair. It does creep kids out plus it's not free, unless you have Alopecia. My daughter's comment when she had AML was she was just bald and beautiful pretty poetic was my opinion. Sorry for the TMI. I do hope the above information was beneficial. Have a great week. If you find anything worthwhile could you let me know and I'll do the same. Thank you Stacey http://pics3.city-data.com/forum/ima...ons/icon12.gif

Don't be upset if you don't hear from OP - they haven't posted in this forum for over 2 1/2 years.

My recollection is that "hair culturing" is predominantly done in asia, the Phillippines, etc. Hair is collected from women who can grow it long and straight. Then the hair is bleached and processed. So I really doubt anyone locally would buy hair.
