Hello,
We intend to buy a house in Guilford county, and have found some houses in the Pleasant Ridge Road, Fleming Road, Colfax areas (zip codes 27410, 27409, 27235). However, there has been some discussion of the noise problems that might happen when the FEDEX hub at the PTI airport takes off in full swing in the future. Can someone kindly provide me with some update on this issue, and some suggestions as to which areas might be seriously affected? Also, any information (/map) about the different noise zones will be very helpful. I came across the following Noise Exposure Map but will have to study this more carefully to find out whether this is of any help.

Thank you in advance for the help!

That map is a good indicator, and you can also call Mr. Mickie Elmore or Ms. Lisa Elmore with the PTI Airport Authority at 336-665-5600. Best of luck to you!

I live right next to the airport and to date we haven't been too terribly bothered with the plane noise. We were told we would not be in the direct flight path, but that has proven to be false. The Fedex hub hasn't really gotten much traffic as of yet so we will have to see what comes with that. According to the noise map the Pleasant ridge area and further out near oak ridge shouldn't have overly intrusive noise, but you shouldn't think you will be immune to hearing it. I'm anticipating more noise where I live, but I don't think it will cause me to up and move to a different area...yet anyway.

The plane volume is pretty low though. This could be a problem, because if the volume stays down in 2011, the weather observers at the airport could all lose their job.
