Hi forum:

I posted here a few months ago for information about relocating, and got great help. I found a house in Glenwood and will move in another month or so. The house needs a fence - we have dogs and just need chainlink or a wood and wire type fence that will hold them in. We are quitting jobs to move there for school, so budget is a major concern...we were considering doing it ourselves, but it seems like the kind of thing that might be easy to screw up.

Does anyone have a recommendation for someone who can build me a simple and cheap fence? Found lots of companies online, just looking for someone who's had a good experience.

Thanks,
Ashley

Gee, I wish I could remember the name of the guy who did ours back in 2002. We bought the materials at Lowes and he built it (chain link) for $400, materials were about $400. It is a decent area too-about 1/4 of an acre with 1 double gate. From all I have heard, it is cheapest to find someone to do it like we did and buy your own materials. There probably are a lot of IC's that advertise. Ask for a few references and check them out!

I'm in the same position. We close on our house next week and then we need to be looking at fencing for the dogs. I'd ideally like to find someone to sink the posts for a fence now (and then we'd put up temporary field fence) and then maybe have them come back for the "real" fence later since money is tight.

Bumping this to see if there are any other good but inexpensive fence builders around.

DH just got a bonus from work and we'd like to move forward on a fence for our dogs - not sure whether we'll go all out with a privacy fence or stay with our original idea of split rail with a wire fence liner or something similar.

Thin wire is not good for dogs, it cuts both their feet and their nose.

I don't have a recommendation for who to use, but I will say that two summers ago I was investigating building a fence myself and was astounded at the rudeness and unresponsiveness of Beeson Fence while I was trying to get quotes. I called back after my back phone experience to try to talk with someone about my experience, I don't know who I talked to, but he ended up cussing at me for "wasting his time". This guy's attitude sure made a lasting impression with me.

So far I've had on site quotes from Piedmont Fence Co. and FenceBuilders Inc. (both were very friendly and helpful), scheduled an onsite quote from Arcadia Fence on Monday, and an onsite quote for installation through Lowes on Wednesday.

We've decided that if we're going to spend the $$$ on a fence then we'll be getting a 6' solid wood privacy fence vs messing around with something that's not quite what we want but is cheaper.

Thanks for the heads up cwolfe!
