LLN: My son has been accepted into UNCSA and will be starting in August. (Pretty exciting!) I wondered how you daughter is doing there -- I guess she's finished the first two years now? Has it been a good experience? Just curious to hear her/your perspective at this point.

NCSA is a good school. As far as housing you may want to do the old foot search. Some areas around the school are questionable at best. There is student housing and some new apts. just off campus. They down have a shuttle that goes to the mall movies and other short trips. The school has had a great relationship with the city.

My husband just got a position at the UNCSA - at the Music department. So we're moving to WS in August from Richmond, VA. My husband is very happy and excited about this job because the UNCSA really has a nationwide reputation! Good luck to your son!

For any of those who went through the auditions for the film making program, what was the audition process like? What did they ask? I am trying to wrap my head around what to expect in an audition for an art college after five years in the Marines.

The way it kinda works is that first year you take broad courses, and make faculty connections. For most areas second year is more of the same.

Near the end of 2nd year, they have what they call "sophomore slaughter". Where you are chosen by faculty to go into specialist areas such as art dept, producing, script writing, etc,

My daughter went for a high school summer program yhere and just applied. She had extraordinarily high grades in high school, with very little art experience. She had no audition and was accepted right away.

Good lqck. UNCSA is a great opportunity.

I went to art school in downtown Pittsburgh years ago. A that time I never heard of W-S, but probably would of judged it, assuming it was a boring southern town. After visiting W-S I fell in love with it, and hope to move there by the end of this year. As an artist, a town with a great feel and arts is very important to me. W-S has it. I would imagine that your son would be perfectly happy there, and feel no need to visit Charlotte to experience "city life" - W-S holds it's own with a wonderful walkable downtown filled with galleries and outdoor cafés. W-S has a very nice, large skyline. People are alive and walking all over downtown, eating out on the sidewalks, and there is no shortage or beautiful urban homes and apts close to downtown in addition to lofts all over the city.
