I live in Winston-Salem and there are two dogs that come to the dog park which are extremely violent but the owners refuse to control or remove them. There are four dogs that are big enough to defend themselves but the rest are at the mercy of Max and Thor. Most other dog owners leave in tears never to return. The owners of the violent dogs laugh and say it's dominance.
When the owners of the dogs that have been attacked complain, Maxs and Thors owners refuse to do anything but badmouth them.
Hopefully it will end without another dog dead or much worse a child.

I suggest contacting animal control and find out what they are willing to do about the situation. I would think there are specific laws about issues like that. If not, try the police because regardless of the location I am sure there are laws against people using dogs to intimidate others.

I second calling animal control - perhaps call ahead and find out whether you need to call when it's happening (I don't know the local laws yet and some locales require AC to witniss the aggressive behavior) and if so how to reach the officer directly. Have several people call so that there's a nice paper trail.

To keep your animals safe, consider leaving the park as *soon* as the mean dogs arrive and look into carrying "Direct Stop" spray. Direct Stop (aka Spray Shield) is citronella based and VERY effective on aggressive dogs.

eta: what park do you use and what do the dogs look like? I'm moving into the area soon and will be using the dog park(s) in the area with at least one of my 3 dogs and need to know where and around whom to be extra cautious. Thanks!

The only dog park I know of is in Washington Park area which in my opinion is a not so favorable neighborhood anyway. I recall seeing a thread on here a few months ago about a couple of women who frequent that park and have bully dogs. They sound like a menace to me.

I haven't been to the Dog park at Washington Park in a while, but it was always a nice experience. If there are certain habitual "bullies" at the park, try animal control or police, or simply leave when they get there.

The other dog park in WS is up north off of Germantown Rd/Memorial Industrial School Road, I believe it is Horizon?

Are there signs at the dog park stating what the rules are for abiding and being able to use it? Also, who is responsible for the park operation and enforcement? Where I live, it is the local Park Rangers. If the sign says something regarding the behavior of the dogs and they are not acting appropriately, then I would certainly contact management/enforcement immediately. After all, they are animals and it sounds like their masters don't have much control of them. This could be potentially dangerous.

Just want to make sure we mean bully (aka mean, dominant) not bully breed. I plan on attending dogs parks with my dogs when I move to NC and I have a Staffordshire Terrier, and an American bulldog/ Pit Bull mix. Both are sweet and get along with other dogs. And are the dogs at this park who are menacing causing damage to another dog? I cant imagine watching a dog fight and not calling to police, especially if this is reoccuring. If there are simply following them around, or dominating as the owner says.. i'd say its dog play. I am not trying to be defensive, but are these dogs intimidating you or others because of appearance or because of behavior??
