But the economy is improving. The stimulus package worked. Whoops:

Upstate counties also saw their unemployment rates rise. Greenville posted an unemployment rate of 9.3, up 0.4% from April’s 8.9%. Anderson and Spartanburg counties reported unemployment rate of 11% in May. Spartanburg’s rate increased only 0.2% from 10.8% while Anderson’s rate jumped 0.4% from 10.6 in April.

I honestly thought that any "excess" jobs had been shaken out of the economy by now. With ongoing announcements of new companies and facilities in the area, I would have thought the situation would be static at worst. Companies are on minimal staffs as it is now. I don't understand how any more jobs can be shed and some companies still be able to run.
