I have no hidden motives - no hidden agenda. As mentioned, I just want clarification on what seems to be an obvious double-standard. For example, if this particular thread were juxtaposed to some of the threads in the Columbia forum, it would be quite obvious that there is something paradoxical, something hypocritical, indeed - something disingenuous about the argument made by some forumers in this thread. This may not be so obvious when you look at the Greenville forum in isolation. Yet, I know that some Greenville forumers are well-aware of what I am referring to.

As stated earlier, I am a transplant and quite immune to anything negative stated about ANY area of SC. Yet, I am still intrigued by this strange Greenville/Columbia dynamic. I also am curious about G-man's comment about jealousy. Basically, my motives are that I am an inquisitive person who likes understanding the social dynamics of the place where I live.

Personally, i'm jealous of Columbia's larger skyline, home to major university, larger MSA population, huge zoo, etc. I don't know why other Greenville forum members are jealous of that city but those are specifically the things i'm jealous about.

I've been on this forum long enough to know why people go over to other cities sub-forums to bash that area. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out. I'll even admit i've done it myself on the Augusta and Columbia sub-forums. I think the whole USC/Clemson rivalry plays a role too with the whole Columbia/Greenville debate. Notice you never see Charleston involved.

I simply post news articles (Mayor Benjamin, the airport, etc) in the Columbia forum, most from The State.....if those things happen to be negative, so be it. I've found Columbia to be a much more negative, falling behind, kind of place than either Greenville or Charleston.....kind of the nature of what Columbia is. I try to post facts as much as possible. If posting factual articles from The State is bashing, then so be it. The whole debacle with Mayor Benjamin and his wreck.....had that been in Greenville, I would have been just as vocal.

One other note....a couple of the Greenville bashers are alias names and multiple accounts for people from Columbia. We know who they are. They post in the Greenville forum as though they are someone else who lives in another city, when in reality, they are your day in day out Columbia poster, just using two accounts (against the TOS).

As regards jealousy, seems Columbia feels threatened by Greenville. Columbia is the largest city in the state and should have everything, but sadly it doesn't. Southwest chose Greenville, not Columbia. Columbia's airport passenger traffic is 4th behind GSP, CHS and MYR. Columbia hasn't landed any of the major companies like Upstate (BMW, Proterra, Michelin, as of this week CT&T). Greenville has the better shopping (Whole Foods, Apple, etc). Greenville has an award winning downtown while Columbia's has struggled. Greenville has the national cycling championship. People love Greenville's downtown and fawn over it. On and on. Many from Columbia think being the largest city, they should get the best.....they are somewhat taken back, that tiny little Greenville is ahead in most respects.

So WHAT is YOUR motive Davey?
If all of this is true which it pretty much is then why do we continue to go over to their sub-forum and bash the Columbia area? What do we gain by doing it?

If there is a negative that I've found since moving to Greenville, it's the large number of really, really bad drivers here... But I think most of them are probably transplants from the Northeast.

OMG-don't get me started! I particularly love it when someone is coming out of a parking lot & trying to turn LEFT across a 6-lane road at rush hour, and some loon stops (in just 1 of the 6 lanes). The original loon trying to perform said maneuver then creeps across the lanes one at a time, stopping traffic in each lane and nearly causing several accidents until they reach the middle, from where they can enter the traffic flow.

AND.... This usually happens where there is an outlet from the parking lot around the corner with a traffic light for easier entry/exit. I just don't understand it!

I had contemplated making a list of Road Games that I've seen played on the streets in the past, but I ran out of witty names for the games...

Red Light Runners (run the red light just after it turns from yellow to red, and right before cross traffic moves)
Guess the Green Light (inch forward and try to gun the engine just before the light turns green)
Tailgate Tour (see how closely you can ride to the bumper of the person in front of you, especially if traffic is trying to merge)
Parking Lot Dash (quickly drive diagonally across the parking lot of the supermarket)
Left Turn Scamper (like Guess the Green Light, make a left turn when the light turns green and before opposing traffic can cross the intersection)

There's tons more fun games people like to play on the highway.

I hate people that don't use their turn signal when turning and tailgaters in the right lane on the interstate.

I think the general consensus is that turn signals aren't needed in Greenville, as no one uses them.

The one that really gets me is where people hurry up to pass you, cut you off, then slow down or turn. I just think to myself, Thanks for that. My brakes needed a workout.

ITA anytime I disagree with someone on this forum I'm bashed, called a Gville hater etc, an I'm a native! If you don't post only positive things on here watch out.....and I bet even this post gets negative remarks

Very well said!
