Can someone recommend a hiking club that caters to new enthusiasts and older couples in the Greenville area? Thanks.

Default Also look at these groups

I just joined Greenville Natural History Association myself. I haven't hiked with them yet, but I'm sure they are quite thorough in their system. and yes, at least some of their hikes seem to be attended by a crowd that is mostly retired folks. I've encountered them on hikes several times. Their dues are only $5 per year which I find very reasonable for the several hiking choices they have planned almost every week. Their hikes are graded, such that you can know the level of difficulty ahead of time, and work yourself into hikes that are appropriate for your interests and abilities, but they don't segregate the hikers by age.

If you want more variety, there are other groups hiking out of Greenville. Those that I know of, and have experience hiking with are all organized on Meetup. If you look across these three, plus the GNHA mentioned first, you end with a huge choice of hikes on any week of the year:

Upstate Hiking and Outdoor Adventures (Greenville, SC) - Meetup

http://greenville.outdoorclubsouth.com/

Foothills Outdoor Group (Anderson, SC) - Meetup (http://www.meetup.com/Foothills-Outdoor-Group/ - broken link)

If you really like to hike with a group, I say "why limit your choices - check everything that is available." Actually, there are other Meetup groups available, but I didn't mention them as I have no personal experience with them. But you may go to Meetup and search out the others relevant to the Greenville area for yourself:

Do something, Learn something, Share something, Change something - Meetup

And be aware that if you want to limit who you will be hiking with to a certain age group, you can always look at the pictures of those signed up for an event on any Meetup and get an idea of who you will be hiking with. The Meetup groups just aren't as careful to pinpoint the difficulty of their hikes as the GNHA is. But they usually do give a distance as well as a difficulty rating to the hikes they schedule. And if you are still unsure, you may always contact the hike leader via email through Meetup and get more information.
