Don't forget Chimney Rock Park in NC is not that far away, as well as Grandfather Mountain, Blowing Rock, and Crowder's Mountain. And the Stone Mountain is not that far down in Georgia.

I went to Crowders mountain state park outside of Charlotte near Kings Mountain this weekend.

I only heard of it recently. You can see the Charlotte skyline from the pinnacle overlook which has a lot of big rocks. Good trail, gets fairly steep last half mile. There are other trails and a little lake.

My fav state parks nearby are Chimney Rock and Devil's Fork. Keowee Toxaway has cliff views of Lake Keowee and you can jump off. There is a rope swing.

Oconee state park has a mini golf course which is the most fun one i have done.

That was a great post, Skyliner! I really love Jones Gap; just walking in there you feel like you are in a far away paradise. You can also do a pretty easy hike there, to Jones Gap Falls, or a more strenuous one to Rainbow Falls. Just do not, under any circumstances, run over a 2x4 in the road on the way and get two flat tires. There is no cell service there. Ask me how I know.
